Do you  ever wonder where the phrase "kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince" comes from?
Well, it started with the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Frog Prince. In the story, a princess loses her golden ball in a pond and promises a frog she'll be his friend if he retrieves it. He does, but she's disgusted and refuses to keep her promise, eventually throwing him into a wall, in anger. This act transforms him into a prince, teaching lessons about promises and appearances.
It wasn't until this story was translated from German to English, that the princess kissed the frog instead of throwing him, to break the curse. This is what caught on and evolved into a proverb.
The metaphor of finding the "real" prince beneath the frog's skin emerged as a way to encourage people to endure bad dates or first impressions in their search for true love. It urged everyone to reflect and persevere instead of rushing to harsh judgements. I think this is a very good piece of advice.
Do you?
